YA Medieval Fantasy

.
Fighting legends in the Middle Ages is a dangerous game, even for the modern young magician known as the Chosen One

The Unhewn Stone is a story of hidden identity, about a modern day Swiss boy who travels back to 1307AD and tries to prevent the Wilhelm Tell legend from happening. He has three goals:
  • save a tyrant's life
  • discover the cause of an alchemist's fear
  • and learn how to change base metal into gold
.
As Üserwäälti, the Chosen One, he is hurtled into a violent era where alchemy, magic and religion collide. Facing his own demons and those of medieval Switzerland, he discovers a wonderful truth, but needs more than his superior knowledge to equip him for survival in the medieval world; a shape-shifting sibyl and an evil knight are determined he will never leave the 14th century alive.

The Wilhelm Tell legend centres around Bürglen, Altdorf, Lake Luzern and Küssnacht, in central Switzerland. This is the setting for my novel. A beautiful area to visit. The legend and this winter wonderland are important aspects of The Unhewn Stone.

HAPPINESS GUARANTEED - short story

Picture
Cover Designer Tiger Matthews

Her grandfather spoke of a time when sunlight shone on everyone, but he'd been a storyteller, a bad influence.

Bianca, a beautiful Epicurean Supremo from a privileged futuristic society has a flaw which, if discovered and reported to the Rulers, will threaten her life and that of the man she loves. Unable to pinpoint the cause she tries to hide her anxiety until an ingenious birthday present from her husband provides a respite. Now, on her thirty-third birthday, her primitive behaviour and thought patterns return; stronger and more dangerous.

This short story is a mainstream futuristic cameo covering the birthday of Bianca, an Epicurean Supremo. The first version was published as Bianca's Birthday Present in the Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine (ASIM) in 2003. Issue 5
